Astronomer and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that Eid al-Fitr will be on Friday.
Replying to the question, Maumoon said that the astronomical calculations show that Eid will be on Friday.
The International Astronomical Center (IAC) said the moon will not be visible on Thursday. Therefore, Eid al-Fitr may be next Saturday.

"It is rare to see the moon with the naked eye anywhere in the Arab and Islamic world next Thursday. Most Arab countries except Libya and parts of West Africa will not see the moon with a telescope. So Saturday is likely to be the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
Muslims around the world end their month-long fast when the moon appears on the 29th or 30th of Ramadan.
